One of St. Petersburg's most famous parks that is often called like "the Russian Versailles". Peterhof means "Peter's Court" in German language. Peterhof was laid out as a summer royal residence on the order of Peter the Great at the beginning of the 18th century.
Lomonosov (Oraniebaum) is the oldest of the Imperial Palaces around St. Petersburg. It was founded by Menshikov. Lomonosov was presented by Empress Elizabeth to her nephew in 1743. The original name of the town is Oraniebam that means orange tree in German language.
